Toyota Leadership Training Methods

An expert review of Toyota's framework for developing frontline leaders — covering the three core skills: TCS (communication), TJI (job instruction), and TPS (standardized work and kaizen).

OJT Solutions is a consulting firm staffed by former Toyota supervisors and managers. Their book トヨタ リーダー1年目の教科書 (Toyota Leader First-Year Curriculum) lays out the system Toyota uses to develop frontline leaders — from team leader through section manager — across three skill tracks: TCS, TJI, and TPS.

This series summarizes each chapter, then adds historical context, practical commentary, common failure modes, and connections to the broader Toyota system that the book does not cover. The framework is theirs; the critique and elaboration are mine.
