TWI Job Relations — Original Course Materials and Forms
The complete TWI Job Relations course set: the JR pocket card, trainer's outlines for all five sessions, the problem analysis sheet, and the standard debrief procedure for supervisor practice problems.
The TWI Job Relations (JR) program teaches supervisors how to handle problems involving people. Its starting point is on the card: a supervisor gets results through people. The card carries two things. The first is the foundations for good relations: let each worker know how he is doing, give credit when due, tell people in advance about changes that will affect them, and make the best use of each person’s ability. The second is the four-step method for handling a job relations problem: get the facts, weigh and decide, take action, and check results, with the objective determined first.
The five sessions:
- Session 1 presents the foundations for good relations and the four-step method.
- Session 2 works on the importance of getting the facts, including personal opinions and feelings, using a worked supervisor problem.
- Session 3 practices Step 2, weighing and deciding.
- Session 4 practices Steps 3 and 4, taking action and checking results, including preventive action.
- Session 5 covers a supervisor’s other work relationships and completes the participants’ practice problems.
The forms: the problem analysis sheet records how the problem came up, the objective, and the work of each of the four steps. The standard debrief procedure gives the trainer a step-by-step pattern, with key points, for discussing each supervisor’s practice problem in front of the group.
