TWI Job Methods — Original Course Materials and Forms
The complete TWI Job Methods course set: the four-step JM pocket card, the job breakdown sheet, a sample worksheet, and the trainer's outline for each of the five sessions of the program.
The TWI Job Methods (JM) program teaches supervisors a four-step plan for improving how a job is done: break down the job, question every detail, develop the new method, and apply the new method. The card states the purpose in one sentence: a practical plan to help you produce greater quantities of quality products in less time, by making the best use of manpower, machines, and materials now available.
This set contains the materials used to deliver the program in a plant. Each session file is a trainer’s outline. It lists the materials to prepare, the room setup, and the full sequence for running the session.
The five sessions:
- Session 1 introduces the four-step Job Methods plan through a demonstration job (the sample shield job, worked with jigs, a fixture, and brass and copper cards).
- Session 2 puts the emphasis on Step I, breaking down the job. Participants begin practice demonstrations on jobs from their own areas.
- Session 3 puts the emphasis on Step II, questioning every detail.
- Session 4 puts the emphasis on Step III, developing the new method, and prepares the proposal report for review with plant management.
- Session 5 puts the emphasis on Step IV, applying the method. The program closes with each member pledging to break down and question at least one job per week.
The card and forms: the JM pocket card carries the four steps with their key points. The job breakdown sheet is the working form for listing every detail of the present method, with space for notes and ideas. The sample worksheet adds columns for the questioning pattern (why, what, where, when, who, how) and the improvement pattern (eliminate, combine, rearrange, simplify).
